The event benefits the scholarship fund of the South Area Solomon Schechter Day School in Norwood. (‘Chaijinks’ is a combination of the Hebrew word ‘chai’ -- ‘life’ -- and ‘high jinks,’ or ‘celebration’.)
Husband and wife community leaders and attorneys Jordan D. Hershman D. Hershman and Diana K. Lloyd, parents of two SASSDS students, will be honored with the Lester B. Gilson Community Service Award. Robert Starr will receive the Effie Goldstein Memorial Volunteer Award.
Peter Yarrow helped bring Peter, Paul & Mary to international acclaim while advancing the great social movements of the time. He wrote such classics as “Day is Done,” “Puff, the Magic Dragon,” and “Light One Candle.” His music stirs the soul and has moved audiences to action to make the world a better place. Much of the trio’s music centered around the social issues including war, homelessness, the environment, world hunger, and apartheid. They won six Grammy Awards between 1963 and 2003 plus 12 nominations.
Peter is founder of Operation Respect: “Don’t Laugh At Me,” a non-profit organization based on his belief that music has the power to build community and catalyze change.
