Hip Hop Artist Cane Murphy Overcomes Tremendous Odds to Release Debut Album, "The Side You DonÂ’t See"

(EMAILWIRE.COM, February 02, 2010 ) NEW YORK, NY – The music industry is a cold and unforgiving world for the average entertainer. Even with the best of luck, artists are destined for a long, treacherous road to the top. Yet Hip Hop Artist Cane Murphy, survivor of a major spine injury and the subsequent risky reconstructive surgery, has risen above those challenges to release his debut album, “The Side You Don’t See" February 28th.

Cane Murphy, also known as “redrum”, grew up in Stapleton, Staten Island. He moved to section 8 housing in South Beach where he was famous for his Irish wit & comedic storytelling, all while downing 40oz bottles of Old English. Struggling through poverty, he turned to artistic expression on the streets through graffiti and landed on the graffiti task force's most wanted list. Already on the law’s less-favorable side, Murphy was later picked up in a narcotics sweep at the infamous South Beach Arcade for hustling.

In an effort to turn his life around, Murphy gave up everything to focus on his music. Beginning in New York’s underground, he performed over 200 times. Everything from grinding at open mics and showcases to battles, Murphy was determined to make a name for himself; and make a name he did. He toured the U.S. with Grammy-winning Artist and Guitarist, Vernon Reid & D.J Logic, performed on a track with Rap Legend "Slick Rick" on the album "Front end Lifter” and was featured on multiple mixtapes including "DJ. Vlad's" Rock Stars blends and "Coast2Coast Mixtape 81" and in rap magazines "Juniors Cave and "Rap Fanatic." His many years of hard work were finally paying off.

Working a part-time moving job to support his music, Murphy experienced a horrific accident. The steel lift gate on the moving truck slammed down on to Murphy's back causing severe damage to his lower spine. After reconstructive spinal surgery, doctors said he was lucky he wasn't paralyzed, yet he never fully recovered. Fighting through constant pain, Murphy pressed on, and determined to make his music career a success he returned to performing throughout New York's Rap circuit.

Performing one late night in Harlem N.Y, Murphy’s lyrical ability caught the attention of an A&R from Def Jam who said he “hasn't heard a lyricist like that since KRSone and Rakim".

Murphy's break into mainstream seemed just weeks away when the titanium screws and rods in his back shattered from what doctors called a "failed spine fusion." Awaiting a second reconstructive spine operation, and still overcoming debilitating pain, Murphy hit the studio and finished recording his debut album.

Murphy adds, “I may not survive this second surgery, but at least my music will be out there for my fans.”

Cane Murphy's debut album, “The Side You Don’t See” will be available February 28th, 2010 on iTunes, FYE, Rhapsody, CDbaby.com and everywhere digital downloads are sold. To hear his music, see his video blogs, and view upcoming tour dates visit www.myspace.com/canemurphy.
