(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 15, 2009 ) WHITEHORSE—Great River Journey’s epic tours on the Yukon River will launch their first season in June, 2009. This unique journey back through history provides guests the opportunity to enjoy many activities along the way. Travel on the Yukon River in specially designed boats; hike with Native guides, kayak, fish, take photographs, bird watch and sightsee along the way.
“This is the most significant initiative in Northern Tourism in a generation” says George Asquith, President of Great River Journey. Guests will follow the path of long ago gold rush pioneers, through through First Nations’ lands from Whitehorse to the Klondike claims of Dawson City. Dates range from the beginning of June to the end of September and are limited to a maximum of 10 people for each departure.
Two night stays with frequent stops will allow guests to visit geological and historic sites related to the First Nations people and the Klondike Gold Rush Stampede. Overnight accommodations along the route are provided at Upper Labarge Lodge, Homestead Lodge and Wilderness Outpost. Lodges are remote, rustic, and exclusive, offering guests unique access to the backcountry. Fine cuisine featuring local ingredients and traditional foods is served throughout the journey.
Great River Journey travels through the traditional First Nations’ lands offering guests a authentic glimpse into their lifestyle. Partners in this venture are the Kwanlin Dün First Nation, the Ta’an Kwäch'än Council, Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and the Selkirk First Nation. They are involved as owners, represented on the board of directors and their people will be among those hosting and guiding guests.
