(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, September 21, 2012 ) Mashantucket, CT – All-female musical singing group Celtic Woman has announced its full schedule of upcoming shows until the first half of 2013, and it will kick off its shows with a performance at the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods in Mashantucket CT. The show will be held on December 1 at 8:00 PM.
Celtic Woman is made up of five Irish female musicians Chloe Agnew, Orla Fallon, Lisa Kelly, Meav Ni Mhaolchatha, and Mairead Nesbitt on fiddle. All of them are of Celtic women, and so are the women who have previously been part of the group such as Alex Sharpe, who left in 2010. Lisa Kelly, however, will not be part of the MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods performance as she is currently pregnant with her fourth child. She will be replaced by Susan McFadden, the sister of Brian McFadden of Irish boy band Westlife.
The original group was assembled in 2004 by Sharon Browne and David Downes. Since then, they have become known for their traditional Celtic music and their unique rendition of popular modern songs. Their music has been critically likened to those of Enya and Clannad. Some similarities have also been found between their music and the stage show Riverdance, and this prompted some to describe the group as ‘Riverdance for the voice’.
Over the years, the group has made it to the top of various music charts and has also won an EBBA Award in 2007. The EBBA Awards is given every year to ten emerging musicians or groups who are able to reach audiences outside their respective countries with their first international release album.
The group has so far released six albums: Celtic Woman, Celtic Woman: A Christmas Celebration, Celtic Woman: A New Journey, Celtic Woman: The Greatest Journey, Celtic Woman: Songs from the Heart, and Celtic Woman: Believe. The group’s sixth album Lullaby was recently released as a limited edition album. It peaked at number 1 on the World Charts and at number 3 on the Children’s Charts, which was a first for the group.
So far, the group has gone on three tours in America and some international performances. After the release of their second album, they toured the US twice in 2007, when they visited 88 cities, and in 2008, when they performed in more than 75 cities. Their late 2008 tour was entitled Isle of Hope and continued through most of 2009. In 2010 to 2011, they continued their Songs from the Heart tour. This tour took them to as far as Germany and Austria in the summer of 2011.
Last December, they went on the Symphony Tour, which was followed in February of this year by the Believe 2012 North American Tour. This concluded in April 2012, after which they went on a European Tour from May to June.
Their upcoming December tours will take them to Mashantucket, then to Pittsburgh, Detroit, Naperville, Costa Mesa and Temecula in CA, Tucson, Atlanta, and Huntsville. Their Huntsville show at the Von Braun Center Concert Hall on December 22 will conclude their 2012 tours.
Fans who will not be able to catch them at these locations still have plenty of shows to choose from until June of 2013.
