The celebrated musical is now one of the most popular productions on Broadway. The jukebox musical is based on the life story of Frankie Valli and his group, which became known as one of America’s biggest pop music sensations – The Four Seasons.
The Four Seasons has a celebrated history. The group of blue-collar boys was known for writing their own songs, inventing their own sounds, and eventually selling up to 175 million records all over the world even before they all reached thirty years of age.
The story of the famed pop music group comes to life again onstage in Jersey Boys, which features over 30 songs such as ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’, ‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’, and ‘Sherry’. The upbeat, fast-paced, and highly engaging musical went on to win the 2006 Tony Award for Best Musical. Since then, the documentary-style musical has had nonstop shows in various venues all over the country including a North American National Tour. It has also penetrated into London’s West End, and can also be watched in Sydney and Melbourne as well as in Toronto. The production has certainly come a long way since it debuted on Broadway last November 6, 2005 at the August Wilson Theatre in New York.
For the rest of 2012, the Jersey Boys will be shown in New York, Las Vegas, and Pittsburgh, among many others. They will also be in Alberta and Vancouver in BC. Their regular shows, however, will still be held at the August Wilson Theatre in New York, which they consider their home.
Jersey Boys is currently directed by Des Mcanuff and recently welcomed back a former member who had previously left the cast. John Lloyd Young will be back in Jersey Boys and will reprise his role as music icon Frankie Valli. After spending years away from the show, Young is all set to take on the role again and will be seen back onstage this September 2012.
