(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, September 02, 2012 ) Boston, MA -- The Boston Ballet will be back for its 2012-2013 season, its 49th season so far, which will open on the 25th of October and will run until the 30th of December. One of the ballet’s best and most memorable productions, The Nutcracker, has been reimagined and is expected to become the highlight of the upcoming season.
The Nutcracker is a popular tale by E.T.A. Hoffmann about young Clara and her magical Nutcracker. The story tells of Clara fantastical journey to a magical kingdom. The Boston Ballet’s adaptation of the timeless tale debuted in 1995 and featured grandiose sets and opulent costumes by Helen Pond, Herbert Senn, David Walker, and Charles Heightchew. The expert performance was accompanied by the Boston Ballet’s talented orchestra led by Jonathan McPhee.
For this coming season, The Nutcracker will be back onstage featuring all new sets and costumes courtesy of Robert Perdziola. The choreography will also feature some major improvements courtesy of the ballet company’s artistic director Mikko Nissinen. The newly improved production will be the centerpiece of the 2012-2013 season of the Boston Ballet.
Perdziola described the newly designed clothing, which feature lighter and paler hues, as popularized by the ‘Sense and Sensibility’ era.
Perdziola said: “The costumes are very reminiscent of the Jane Austen period, from the 18-teens to about 1820, which is slightly earlier than it’s been done previously.”
The costumes, many of which feature empire waistlines for a ‘leaner’ look, are described by Perdziola as ‘more romantic, floatier’.
Fans of the celebrated ballet company from Boston can catch the first showing of the reworked Nutcracker at the Boston Opera House on November 23, 2012. The shows will run continuously until December 30, 2012.
The season, however, will officially begin on October 25 with other productions, such as a revival of Christopher Bruce’s ‘Rooster’ and William Forsythe’s ‘The Second Detail’. These shows will end on the 4th of November to give way to the Nutcracker shows.
Aside from these, the Boston Ballet will offer spring performances with an all-Jiri Kylian program starting March 7 to 17 next year. The lineup includes ‘Wings of Wax’, ‘Tar and Feathers’, and ‘Symphony of Psalms’. By March 22 until April 7, the Ballet will feature Marius Petipa’s ‘The Sleeping Beauty’.
