November 10th, while the rest of the country is sleeping in on a Saturday morning, shoppers from near and far clad in their finest sleepwear and adventurous enough to be out at the earliest hours can cash in on deep discounts during Bar Harbor’s popular Early Bird Pajama Sale. Following the sale, Bar Harbor will see pajama clad shoppers and beds being paraded down Main Street in preparation for the 5th Annual Bed Races. Costumed teams of five race decorated beds through a downtown course. This family event is popular with all ages, though spectators may want to bring a warm beverage or snack.
On December 7th, with music, cookies, and cocoa, families can await the arrival of Santa on the Village Green. After lighting Bar Harbor’s Christmas tree, Santa will take the “Polar Express” to the Mount Desert Island YMCA. Here children can play games, make crafts, and have their photo taken with the big guy. After the kids have their fun, adults can do some late night shopping during the Midnight Madness Sale. Stores will have extra discounts from 8 p.m. to midnight, with additional savings available to bargain hunters dressed in evening wear.
As the holidays approach, travelers can combine shopping with family fun in Bar Harbor.
