Tis the Season for a Cowboy Christmas in Sheridan, Wyoming

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 28, 2012 ) SHERIDAN, Wyo. -- Named a Distinctive Destination by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Sheridan, wyoming continues to preserve and share joyful community traditions during the holiday season. From Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve the town of Sheridan celebrates the sights, sounds, and smells of the holidays with the annual Christmas Stroll.

The festivities begin with greetings from Santa Claus and a dazzling fireworks display. Vintage fire trucks, trolleys, and horse-drawn wagons draped with greenery can be seen cruising Sheridan’s Historic Main Street District. Carolers and shoppers stroll the streets peering into the decorated shop windows. Snowflakes twinkle in the glow of bulbs lining windows and eaves as part of the lighting contest. Mid-December, the WYO Theater puts on a joyous production of song and dance titled: A Wonder-Filled WYO Christmas. The Christmas Stroll also kicks off Bradford Brinton Museum and Memorial’s holiday art show. October through December shoppers can find unique handmade gifts at a number of holiday craft fairs.

The Kendrick Mansion at Trail End State Historic Site gets into the Yuletide spirit with the annual Trail End Holidays. The house is adorned with poinsettias, bright red bows, evergreen garlands, and Christmas trees with period ornaments. Visitors can sample hot apple cider and figgy pudding in the Trail End Kitchen and Butler’s Pantry. Local musicians and choirs play lively music throughout this three day event.

For a look back at the Wild West, visitors can head to Fort Phil Kearney. Just before Christmas, guides dressed in period costumes lead walking tours with living history and weapons demonstrations at historic Fetterman Battlefield.
