(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 25, 2012 ) New York, NY -- The Metropolitan Opera will be opening its 2012-2013 season this coming September. The famed opera group will be back at the Lincoln Center in New York’s Upper West Side starting on the 26th of September. After that, the opera will perform regularly at the said venue until May 2013.
The 2012-2013 season will feature several productions. For the month of September, they will present Turandot, L’Elsir d’Amore, Carmen, and Il Trovatore. For October, they will add Otello, Le Nozze di Figaro, and The Tempest to their lineup. On November, they will debut Un Ballo in Maschera, La Clemenza di Tito, Aida, and Don Giovanni. For December, they will add their holiday presentation The Barber of Seville as well as Les Troyens and Maria Stuarda.
On 2013, they will focus on La Rondine, Il Trovatore, Le Comte Ory, and Rigoletto. By February, the opera will also perform Don Carlo, Parsifal, and Francesca di Rimini. By March, audiences can watch yet another new presentation, La Traviata.
By April and May, the Metropolitan Opera will get ready to conclude their 2012-2013 season with new presentations including Giulio Cesare, Die Walkure, Gotterdammerung, Siegfried, and Dialogues des Carmelites.
The Metropolitan Opera, more fondly called as the ‘Met’, is an opera company based in New York City. It was originally founded in 1880 but it gave its first performance in 1883. The Met performs regularly at the Metropolitan Opera House of the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. The Met in New York has approximately 3,800 seats and was designed by architect Wallace K. Harrison. When not used by the Metropolitan Opera, it is used by other touring opera and companies and is also the principal venue for the American Ballet Theatre. It was also the venue where Samuel Barber’s Antony and Cleopatra premiered back in 1966.
