(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 15, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA -- Residents of Denver, Colorado, were shocked when a PhD student decided to take the lives of 12 people after a planned attack on the premier show of The Dark Night Rises at a local theater, which has certainly given birth to the need of boosting security in such vulnerable public areas.
After the unfortunate incident in which the lives of multiple families were destroyed after losing their loved ones, the city has arranged to increase security at theaters and surrounding areas to avoid such tragedies in the future.
While the city of Denver does not want to scare residents away from watching the latest movies, especially at the venue of the attack, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly has termed the latest steps "as a precaution against copycats" who would try doing something similar to become notoriously known.
“We’re just concerned that someone perhaps seeking notoriety will attempt to do something similar. That is the general public concern,” Kelly said, according to wnyc.org.
The latest increase in security measures was seen recently at the AMC Theatre on 34th Street as customers were checked outside of the venue, one-by-one, while police officers stood on standby in case of any emergency. The theatre also let ticket holders know of a change in policy through issuing the following statement,
“We will not permit face-covering masks or fake weapons inside our buildings.”
With such measures taken by the local police department, residents have been noticed to feel more comfortable and safe with officers in and around these public areas, which will in time, heal the scars left on the people that had been witness to one of the biggest tragedies in Denver’ history.
Any item or clothing which could be used to potentially hide a weapon or any such item that may harm people will not be allowed inside theatres and could even result in a ban due to the high alert situation.
For now, no extreme measures such as hiring armed security personnel or metal detectors have been taken or advised, since they will only create more insecurity in the already frightened residents.
