The Controversial Book about Jesus, 'The Body is Missing,' that every publisher denied is now available.

(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 17, 2012 ) Shelbyville, TN -- A new book titled The Body Is Missing began some years ago as a simple attempt at “harmonizing” the four gospel accounts of the resurrection of Jesus.

While each gospel gives different details that enrich the story from a believer’s point of view, it would be easy for the critic to pick on the differences. John gives the most detail and makes Miriam of Magdala a central figure. Luke agrees with John for the most part, yet shares other details. Both agree at least that two divine messengers, or “angels,” were at the site. Mark and Matthew each mention only one messenger and Mark and Luke both mention the two travelers on the Road to Emmaus. While Luke has some great details, Mark is notoriously incomplete.

Author Chris Selby went to great lengths to portray the rabbi as a real person for the reader in his full-length novel. He argues that “a great deal more appears in my narrative than just a harmony of gospels. In my defense, I have always insisted that this is a work of fiction and I claim no more divine inspiration than to thank God for a quirky imagination and what sometimes seems to be an ability to ask questions I haven’t heard others ask yet or just to consider a fresh point of view. What transformed this work from a mere harmony to full-blown fiction is that I saw in the Biblical record not the usual "scripture opera" I expected, or "bathrobe drama," but real, vulnerable people reacting to phenomenal circumstances that couldn’t be explained. Sometimes even the details of their personalities were clearly visible. Even when this was not the case, their mixed motives, confusion and stress were clear. I saw a wealth of drama and humor here that couldn’t be ignored.”

While some readers may balk at reading a fictionalized account of the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, those that have read the book made comment such as, “it’s like stepping back in time and seeing the story as it could have been” or “I felt I was walking along the road to Emmaus with those brothers when they come upon the stranger.” While the book may seem to be controversial, most readers agree that Selby was respectful of the subject and used research to make the characters come alive.
