(EMAILWIRE.COM, May 02, 2012 ) SANTA FE, NM -- The Canyon Road Merchant’s Association presents the first annual Passport to the Arts on Canyon Road on Mother’s Day weekend. The weekend-long event will include special exhibitions, music by local students, a quick draw, and much more, all benefiting the music programs at the Santa Fe Public Schools.
The weekend will get off to a great start Friday evening with art openings, special shows, and exhibitions at many of Canyon Road’s galleries.
Things will kick off on Saturday with a quick draw at 9:30 a.m. Thirty-three artists will have 90 minutes to create an original piece. Using a variety of media and techniques, each artist will work against the clock to create a masterpiece in full view of the public. As soon as the paint has dried, each finished piece will be whisked off to a live auction.
The day will also include silent auctions at 50 galleries all along Canyon Road. An exceptional collection of paintings, sculpture, glass, jewelry, weavings, and pottery will be up for bid throughout the day.
A variety of live musical performances throughout the day will set a lively tone for the events. Bands, orchestras and choirs from the Santa Fe Public Schools will perform at a dozen outdoor locations throughout the day. A special outdoor performance by Tribute Trio at Ventana Fine Art, on the corner of Canyon Road and Garcia Street, will cap off the day’s events.
A portion of the proceeds from Passport to the Arts will go toward the musical education program at the Santa Fe Public Schools.
The weekend will come to a close on Sunday with a tour of the historic buildings of Canyon Road by the Historic Santa Fe Foundation.
