The website made the announcement as part of an online article titled “The Ten Most Popular TV Commercials on YouTube”, ranking leaders based on their number of YouTube “likes”
The winner is certainly a force not to be reckoned with – Darth Vader himself. The 2011 Volkswagen commercial known as “The Force” has attracted almost a quarter of million Likes, making it king of the commercial castle.
Discussing the advertisement, Funny-Commercials.org stated that:
“The Force aired on TV February 2, 2011 (during the Super Bowl event), and stares a kid dressed as Darth Vader that explores the power of the dark side. The commercial became a huge online success and was widely spread through social networks like Facebook and Twitter and is by far the most “liked” commercial on YouTube.”
Fans of funny commercials ranked a myriad of other ads within the top ten. Companies including Zazoo Condoms, Chrysler Group LLC, Honda and Pepsi also sat under the publicÂ’s YouTube spotlight.
The siteÂ’s owner, William Jackson, explains the appeal of funny commercials:
“For years the commercial advertising world was chock full of serious, overly-pushy commercials that didn’t attempt to connect with their audience. Funny commercials are loved due to the positive impact they have on those watching them. Everyone feels good after laughing – and it isn’t any different with a television commercial” he said.
