Kayak with dolphins and fish for piranhas in EcuadorÂ’s rain forest

COCA, ECUADOR – Through the capable guides at Travel Ecuador, adventure travel outfitter ROW Adventures offers travelers a chance to experience Ecuador’s rain forest as few tourists get the chance to – from the water. The company’s five-day Sea Kayaking Rain Forest tour explores the wetlands of the Amazon Basin by kayak, exploring the most scenic of the lakes and tributaries that surround the great river.

Paddlers will sleep nights and eat their meals in luxurious rain forest lodges, and spend their days paddling the waterways of one of the most vibrant regions of planet Earth. The rain forests of the Amazon Basin are teeming with life; paddlers can expect to see monkeys, birds, otters, and turtles, and may even kayak with freshwater pink dolphins.

The trip tours the narrow gap between EcuadorÂ’s two largest protected places in the Amazon: the 982,000-hectare Yasumi National Park and the 600,000-hectare Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. At the lodge on Lake Pilchicocha, they will fish for (and can even swim with) the AmazonÂ’s famous razor-toothed piranhas.

When not on the water, travelers who choose this tour will walk the rain forest on elevated catwalks and hanging canopies. From there, they will be able to view capuchin, howler monkeys, and even the regionÂ’s elusive and well-camouflaged three-toed sloths.

Outside the expansive Sacha Lodge, they will climb a 135-foot wooden tower built around an ancient Kapok tree. They will also walk the famous Lagartococha Trail, where they will learn about not only the trees – which the native people believe house the spirits of their ancestors – but also the mysterious devil-man, or “dwende” who is thought to inhabit the forest.

More information on the trip, such as photos, itineraries, and booking information, is available upon request. Contact Matt Minich at matt@adventuremedianews.com
