SCMA and Other Scanner Groups

Scanner radio clubs and organizations like the Southern California Monitoring Association have been around for decades. In the case of the SCMA, they have been around since 1975. They were formed after the original organization the Radio Communications Monitoring Association became non-operational.

There professional scanner groups all of the United States of America. Their members hail from all walks of today's society. Other than sharing information, these organizations also hold regular meetings, symposiums, trainings, send out newsletters, create publications, and maintain their own web sites.

About Scanner Radios

Scanners are known by many different names. Sometimes they are simply called scanners, radio scanners, police scanners, radio scanners, and others. Scanner monitoring is quite a popular hobby hence many clubs and organizations are formed. A scanner or radio scanner, simply put, is an electronic device that allows a user to receive transmissions from frequencies used by the FBI, police, and any other organization, group, or agency that make use of these specific radio signals.

Using scanners is perfectly legal and is allowed by the FCC. However, those who own one of these radio scanners should follow a set of guidelines. Hobbyists, scanning enthusiasts, and people who are curious enough to try one of these scanners should also note that there are states that impose stricter laws with regard to the use and ownership of the said pieces of electronic equipment.
