The movie begins when the dark wizard, Gargamel chases the Smurf family as they are making preparations for the Blue Moon Festival. The chase leads to the six of them (Papa Smurf, Brainy, Grouchy, Clumsy, Gutsy, and Smurfette) being transported through a portal that lands the whole gang in the middle of New York City. As they try to adapt to the busy world of human beings and tall buildings, they meet the Wislow couple (Jayma Mays and Neil Patrick Harris) who accept them into their apartment. The Smurfs are on a mission to return to the Smurf village before Gargamel finds them again.
The Smurfs 3D has earned an impressive $500 million at the box office worldwide. This coming holiday season, Columbia Pictures studio is planning to conquer home video as well. Sony announced the Smurfs release date for DVD and 2 Blu-ray configurations on December 2, 2011. The first one is the three disc combo of Blu-ray, DVD and a mini movie, which has the title “The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol.” The mini movie is included in the special gift set edition for the holiday.
The second Blu-ray format is a two disc combo of DVD, Blu-ray 2D and Blu-ray 3D. However, this does not include the mini movie “The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol.” Additional bonus features include Deleted and Extended Scenes, Smurf Speak: Meet the Cast, 2 Commentary Tracks, Happy Music Montage, Going Gargamel, Progression Reels, The Smurfs Interactive Fantastic Adventure Game, The Smurfs: Comic Book to the Big Screen, and Blue-pers.
