Play Outdoors
*Bruneau Dunes Observatory is only one of two public observatories in the state. The VisitorÂ’s Center and Park is open year round and offer both recreation opportunities (swimming and dune skiing) and educational (exhibits, programs, and fossils)
*The area is filled with state and city parks, depending on the current weather, kids can try mountain biking and hiking to whitewater rafting rafting and kayaking.
Experiential Education
*Discovery Center of Idaho has interactive exhibits including creating your own 7 foot tornado, playing in the shadow box, suspending objects in midair with the Bernoulli Blower, and blowing giant bubbles on the Bubble Wall.
* The Art Experience Gallery at the Boise Art Museum is an interactive space for children 12 and under to learn about and create art. The Gallery uses pieces of BAMÂ’s permanent collection as starting points.
Other Adventures
*Thunder Mountain Line offers themed rail trips primarily following the scenic Payette River from Horseshoe Bend to Banks. Themes change with the season but previous themes include: Mad Hatter Tea Party, a Wild West Shoot Out, and Pizza Unlimited.
*Kids can pump up the drama at an Idaho Shakespeare Summer Camp. Improv and Musical camps are also available.
*The Velma Morrison Interpretive Center at the World Center for Birds of Prey is a great place to learn about raptors with summer hours starting in March. In addition to a courtyard of native and non-native birds, the center shares interactive exhibits, daily raptor presentations, and falconry tours.
Fly into BoiseÂ’s international airport and stay in the city to be centrally located or head north to Cascade for a quaint lake town experience. Both cities offer many options for accommodations and dining, in addition to activities.
