(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 15, 2010 ) ESTES PARK, Colo. - As the snow begins to fall, YMCA of the RockiesÂ’ Nordic Center officially to welcomes winter sports enthusiasts for the 2010-2011 season.
The Nordic Center, located near Winter Park at Snow Mountain Ranch, offers cross-country skiing and Nordic ski lessons, snowshoeing and guided hikes, ice skating, sledding and tubing, and sleigh rides to visitors. The Center has a full service ski shop and access to more than 100 km of trails covering 5,200 acres of mountain meadows. Trail passes are free for YMCA members and guests, and available for $15/day $15/day to other visitors. Half-day, multi-day and season passes are also available.
For the 2010-2011 season the Nordic Center is proud to announce the addition of extended dog-friendly trails available to Nordic skiers and snowshoers. Snow Mountain Ranch is one of the few pet-friendly Nordic destinations in the country. In addition to the trails, dog-friendly cabins with fireplaces, fireplaces and amazing mountain views.
Fridays and Sundays from January 8th-February 28th special childrenÂ’s programs are held for skiers of all abilities ages 5-15. During the programs children can participate in ski lessons, skiing games, winter nature activities, and a Nordic Ski Festival. Equipment and trail passes are provided.
A number of clinics are scheduled for the 2010-2011 season. December thru April 9th free waxing clinics will teach ski maintenance and basic waxing techniques with subjects rotating weekly. Guest clinics will be held including a classic and skate skiing clinic led by collegiate coaches from Denver University on December 12th.
Snow Mountain Ranch is one of two Centers operated by YMCA of the Rockies and annually sees more than 20,000 skiers. The property has a variety of accommodations from lodge rooms to yurts to large family-reunion style cabins. Indoor activities including an indoor pool and the Kiva recreational center are also available to guests.
