Feeney Fine Writing Instruments Issues New Written Tutorial On Pen Maintenance

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, March 01, 2016 ) San Jose, California -- Feeney Fine Writing Instruments has recently drafted a new tutorial on fountain maintenance and use for their new Classic Edition that has been added to the the Feeney pen line. The company originally started out in a garage in 2010, manufacturing one of a kind custom made pens for top executives and of course all pen lovers. In August of 2015, Feeney Fine Writing Instruments released its first products onto the Amazon market place.

Michael Feeney did a customer survey with regard to the average person's knowledge of the care, cleaning and maintenance of their fountain pen. It was found that a surprising number of fountain pen users were unaware the quick, simple procedure of a regular and routine cleanse of their fountain pen. This could result in a large number of mistakenly discarded pens that were perfectly operational if properly cleaned and maintained.

Fountain pen care and maintenance is a fairly simple and well documented procedure. As a customer service, Feeney has provided a written tutorial on the care, cleaning and maintenance of the fountain pen and this is now provided with every pen product sold by the Feeney network. Below is a summary of the tutorial on how to clean and maintain a fountain pen.

A ball point pen works differently than the traditional fountain pen. The ink reservoir for a ball point pen comes in the form of a plastic tube where the ink is stored. The ball is kept in place by a socket that allows the ball to rotate as you write and it literally rolls the ink onto the paper. The plastic tube keeps the ink from drying out, leaking or coagulating.

A fountain pen stores the ink in the barrel of the pen via an ink cartridge or an ink converter (used with bottled ink). They need a little more care than a roller ball. Fountain pens work strictly on gravity. When the pen is vertical and is in operation, gravity will pull the ink flow out of the reservoir in the barrel and into the ink feed; a series of vanes that store and flow the ink into the tip of the pen for writing. If the pen is left for some days without use, is stored horizontally, or is never cleaned, the ink can pool and coagulate in the ink feed and in the tip of the pen. If this happens it can cause skipping, leaking or even elimination of the ink flow.

A common practice for fountain pens is to clean them every few weeks, depending on usage. The procedure of cleaning the fountain pen is surprisingly easy:

The first action is to unscrew the grip (tip) of the pen from the barrel and remove any ink cartridge or ink converter. The nib of the pen should be rinsed in cool water, flushing out any ink residue. After flushing the pen is placed into a glass of clean water to soak, loosen and dissolve excess ink. If necessary, a small amount of ammonia can be added to the water for extra strength. The water should be replaced regularly until it no leaves no further ink residue in the water. The grip is then placed into a glass, nib pointing down, with a paper towel at the bottom to soak up excess water and ink. Within 12 to 24 hours the pen should be dry, clean and ready to write. Install ink again and proceed.

This procedure is simple, relatively fast, and may save a lot of pens that might be unnecessarily discarded.
