(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, February 23, 2016 ) Dover, PA -- Identity theft is nothing new, but current technology has increased the risk in recent years. Although new technology leads to many improvements in convenience it does bring some problems as well. Charles Hynes, and executive of Travel Navigator Accessories, has warned that identity theft is likely to increase in 2016, in part due to the widespread use of new credit and debit cards that contain RFID chips.
Chip cards have been around for several years, but 2015 saw a drastic increase in their use in the United States, and in 2016 most new cards will include these chips that contain sensitive personal information. If that information falls into the hands of a criminal via an RFID reader it can be used for fraud and identity theft.
Hynes recently said, "RFID is becoming a part of everyday life, whether we are aware of it or not, it does pose some security risks that everyone needs to be aware of. The best thing that you can do to protect yourself is to make use of RFID blocking products that will help to prevent unwanted scanning of your personal information."
Travel Navigator manufactures RFID-blocking travel wallets, money belts, and passport holders to help travelers with identity theft protection. The company currently sells its products on Amazon.com and is tentatively planning to begin selling via its own website in 2016.
Hynes predicts that RFID-blocking products will continue to increase in popularity in 2016, following rapid growth in 2015. And as more consumers understand the need for protecting their information, Hynes says that Travel Navigator will continue to develop more new products.
