Unlike a typical fanny pack that is work outside of clothing, the money belt is thin enough to be worn under clothing, which helps to prevent pickpocketing.
While other money belts do already exist in the travel industry, Travel Navigator Accessories based its design on extensive research on customer and traveler feedback. The company analyzed online reviews of other similar products to see what travelers like and don't like about typical money belts, and they also used their existing customer base of travelers for feedback. Travel Navigator currently sells a neck wallet and passport holder, and so they tapped in to that customer base for feedback while designing another product for the same target market.
Charles Hynes of Travel Navigator Accessories said "When we designed our first product in early 2015, our neck wallet, we reached out to a lot of travelers to get their input on what they would want in a travel wallet. But this time around the research phase was so much easier and more effective because we already have a strong base of thousands of travelers who have bought and are using our neck wallet. Many of those customers are also interested in money belts, so we were able to get their feedback and really put it to good use in the design."
Hynes noted that they feedback helped the company to make decisions on details of the design such as the types of belt strap to use, the type of materials (especially on the back of the product where it touches skin), the colors offered, and the size.
