Greenwich International Film Festival (GIFF) is a non-profit organization that was founded to bridge the worlds of film, finance, and philanthropy. GIFF's mission is to provide filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work in hopes of gaining funding and distribution. Additionally, GIFF will utilize the power of film to serve a greater good, with a percentage of the proceeds from the festival going on to support GIFF's 2015 charity partner, UNICEF. The four-day festival featured over 25 films, an opening night party, panels, receptions, and an honoree gala. Kathie Lee Gifford and Regis Philbin served as Masters of Ceremonies, and Harry Belafonte was honored for his philanthropic work with UNICEF. The festival, which was made possible solely due to the help of countless volunteers, will help to create a burgeoning visual arts community in Greenwich and beyond.
This year the event took place from June 4th to the 7th. Step and Repeat LA provided numerous banners and red carpets to help make this glamorous event even more spectacular.
The town of Greenwich was settled in 1640 and was declared a township by the General Assembly in Hartford on May 11, 1665. One of the founders was Elizabeth Fones Winthrop, the daughter-in-law of John Winthrop, founder and Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. What is now called Greenwich Point was known for much of the area's early history as "Elizabeth's Neck" in recognition of Elizabeth Fones and their 1640 purchase of the Point and much of the area now known as Old Greenwich.
