The Book Of Mormon Tickling America's Funny Bone

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, March 17, 2015 ) Delray Beach , Florida -- This is the musical that theatre goers have been buzzing about since its premiere. The Book of Mormon, a Broadway musical is on the road entertaining theatre goers across the county. This musical is so full of lewd behavior that one would almost have to assume it was written by the men behind the TV series South Park. That shock value - however - is what makes this show so unbelievably fun. Critics have been raving over it and the New York Times called it "the best musical of the century".

The musical is an equal opportunity offender meaning it offends everyone. Matt Stone and Trey Parker (creators of South Park), as well as Robert Lopez (writer for Avenue Q), are notorious for not letting anyone feel left out of the ridicule. The three men aim to keep the audiences rolling in their seats even when making jokes about serious subjects like a murderous African warlord or even AIDS. At the end of the day though, this musical has some remarkable things to say about the human condition.

The LDS church elders in Salt Lake City probably never thought this 2011 musical called The Book of Mormon would become such a Broadway hit and winning nine Tony Awards including "Best Musical." It's also for certain that they never expected it to be a profane and sacrilegious satire that ridicules their faith, mercilessly poking fun at their most sacred and enshrined beliefs.

Oh well, call it showbiz!

Broadway Across America has finally brought the musical to Kansas City's Music Hall recently and the production was an absolute riot. With lyrics by Trey Parker and Matt Stone (TV's "South Park") and Robert Lopez ("Avenue Q"), "The Book of Mormon" tells the irreverent story of two naive LDS missionaries who are sent to Uganda to convert the native people. What could possibly go wrong? Naturally, things don't go too smoothly.

Elder Price played by Billy Harrigan Tighe, an enthusiastic lad who fully expects his Heavenly Father to bless his proselytizing efforts, though he'd rather have been assigned to Orlando, Florida. His missionary companion, Elder Cunningham, played by A. J. Holmes is a socially awkward nerd who has problems telling the truth.

Upon arriving to their destination, they quickly learn that a successful mission may not be as easy as they thought. These wide-eyed fellows get more than they bargained for when they encounter the crushing poverty and repressive conditions the local people face.

This musical is entertaining and fun while touching on some complicated issues while letting teatre goers come away feeling satisfied.
