Ten percent of the 1.3 million Americans with Parkinson's Disease live in Palm Beach County. Parkinson Disease is a neuro-degenerative disease which prevents the production of Dopamine in the brain. It is also known as a Movement Disorder as it is characterized by hand tremors, "freezing" while walking and slow movements and poor balance. As the disease progresses, it can also effect speech and swallowing and cause cognitive impairment. It takes a toll on the whole family. Research is looking at new treatments, medication delivery and stem cell use to help the brain produce more Dopamine.
