Baird understands all the problems inherent to the business and wants to do something about it. His proposed website is designed to help musicians, music lovers and venue owners work together more effectively.
“Quite often, musicians aren’t paid what they thought they were getting,” explained Baird. “There can be miscommunication about time slots, too.”
In addition, promoters can siphon off big chunks of the artists’ pay and do very little with it in terms of publicity. It can be extremely difficult for bands to book out-of-town shows. And in many cases, the venues don’t know much about the musicians and the musicians don’t know much about the venues.
The new site, currently under construction, will create a tool box that enables club owners to log in important information (payment, show times, available equipment, etc.) and musicians to post details about what they offer.
“There’s a rating system for both sides,” Baird said. “Venues can rate artists on professionalism, performance, audience draw and more, and artists can rate venues on sound, stage, professionalism, and more. Artists and venues can then pull in good crowds based on high ratings.”
Plus, there is no contract, monthly fee or long-term obligation. Musicians and venues pay for only the services they need.
The site plan and concept are complete. All Baird needs is about $9,500 of start-up capital for web design and development, advertising, a local radio player to listen to local music and a few additional enhancements.
In order to raise funds, he has launched an Indigogo campaign that can be viewed at his https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/gigody-com">Indiegogo page. Baird is hoping that musicians, club owners and fans will see the value in this website and help finance the project.
Depending on their donation levels, contributors will receive Gigoody T-shirts and varying levels of services on the site.
The Gigody website is a cooperative on-line marketplace for music, allowing musicians and venues to match up and work together. They can promote and market themselves, schedule shows and tours, and help provide visibility. A unique Outlook-style calendar enables bands to schedule directly with the venue. Artists can schedule entire tours in 30 minutes, knowing where and when they will play, and the pay – all from their computers or mobile devices.
There’s even a format for fans to voice their opinions about favorite bands and venues.
“It’s a win-win for everyone,” Baird said. “It will help bands get paid for their hard work and help venues book incredible shows.”
