(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, April 12, 2014 ) Kenmore, WA -- You wouldn’t necessarily think that a game using a single deck of cards could be exciting, revealing, provocative and sometimes risqué. Well, Cards of Candor is all that and more.
Developed by Dean Cox of Seattle, Wash., this new card game is designed for 4-8 adults (18-plus) and is usually played for an hour or two. Each time you play the game is completely different.
Here’s how it works: The dealer reads a question from the deck and the players anonymously answer by submitting a “Yes” or “No” card. The dealer then tries to guess how many answered “Yes” or “No.” If the dealer guesses correctly, he or she keeps the question card. If the dealer guesses incorrectly, he or she decides to hear either the “Yes or No” stories and why the player answered the way they did.
That’s where it gets fun and very interesting, although each player has the option to remain anonymous if sharing a story is uncomfortable or embarrassing by saying nothing. A player can decide to share their story and win the card. If multiple people wish to share, then the dealer decides who’s story wins. The card game has a scoring system and other rules, too, but sharing the rather interesting stories is the most entertaining part. It’s great for parties, games night or playing at your local bar.
Here are some of the more “tame” sample questions in the deck:
• Have you ever had a DUI?
• Have you ever been arrested?
• Have you had more than __ sexual partners? (Dealer fills the blank)
• Have you ever lied on a tax return?
• Have you had sex in a hot tub or pool?
“You will find out a lot more about your friends or new people at a party,” says Cox. “Maybe even some things you won’t want to know. You’ll be amazed and surprised about some of the answers you get.”
Cox has developed a beta version and tested it out on friends and other groups, all with positive results. He now wants to market the game nationwide and for that he needs some cash. By his own estimate, it comes just under $10,000 for materials, printing, marketing and shipping.
In order to raise the start-up funds for Crads of Candor, Cox has launched a Kickstarter campaign. Those who would like to see this product hit the market can make a contribution at his website.
Depending on their level of contributions, backers will receive a PDF version of the game, one or more actual sets of game cards and the opportunity to write a question that will be included in the final version, and more.
“It's a simple, it’s fun and it’s an adult game that is different every time you play,” Cox says. “Different groups will respond in completely different ways. And a person’s privacy is always respected, but to win, it’s better and more fun to share.”
