(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, August 10, 2013 ) Sarasota, FL -- Several hundreds of Potentially hazardous asteroids, or PHA, are orbiting around our sun, with the possibility of coming into our atmosphere and hitting our planets. However, while NASA says that the asteroids are “relatively close”, they actually mean within 4.7 million miles of earth.
PHAs are big enough to cause unprecedented damage to our planet, which could cause Grand Canyon sized-holes or massive tsunamis if they hit the ocean. However, they only hit about once every 10,000 years. Thankfully, NASA assures that none of the PHAs are worrisome or are a threat at least for the next one hundred years.
For those interested in asteroids, NASA provides a New Earth Object Database, which allows users to see objects flying in orbit near the earth. Interesting enough, the visualizations are somewhat pretty.
