Complete Marvel Reading Order Releases New Infograph on Marvel Comics

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, July 10, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- Complete Marvel Reading Order (CMCRO) released a new infograph about comic books, crunching numbers to show that Marvel comic books are still the most popular comics after many decades.



In 2012, Marvel released 64 new comics featuring 563 credited creators. 482 men and 81 women helped create the comics. Women accounted for 14.4 percent of comic book creators, the most in comic book history. Marvel has the largest concentration of women. Females are growing quickly in numbers at Marvel, too. In 2011, women accounted for just nine percent of creators.



The annual average for money spent on the top 300 comic books each month equal to over $248.44 million. The average comic book price is $3.44. Marvel is by far the biggest comic book seller, above DC, Image and Dark Horse Comics combined.



Comic Con is one of the greatest venues for comic book revenue. Over $162 million is earned yearly at the conference, which is the biggest comic book convention in the world, with over 125,000 comic con attendees in one year, just in America. Comic creators also make money by charging money for fans to take pictures with them, up to $10 per picture.



In 1997, the estimated overall market size in North America that includes news stand and book store comic books sales was between $300 and 350 million. That number continued to grow, and in 2012, the the market size was roughly $750 million.



The most commonly credited professions in Marvel comics include cover art, writing, pencils, inks, colors, and letters, and then the editors and assistant editors. In 2012, no women were credit for lettering, but there were the same number of female assistant editors as there were male assistant editors. Editors, colors and writers also had the most female credits.
