(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, June 10, 2013 ) Humble, TX -- The “Perhaps in Dream” exhibition of photography created by Joe Statuto opens with reception on June 14. The exhibition is in the Delaware Arts Center's Alliance Gallery in the Narrowsburg, N.Y. Area, and will continue to be shown through July 6.
The use of digital photography series of “Perhaps in a Dream” is a new study in the metaphor and symbolism of the art. Artist Joe Statuto has become inspired in part by the works of Jorge Luis Borges, who was a surreal writer in his time. Borge created dreamlike illusory scenes that hold common and running objects which were imposed with a profound meaning in the pieces.
Statuto was, himself, trained as a painter first. He worked primarily with oil and watercolor first. He was then drawn to the medium of photography due to the plasticity of the form.
“Applying my knowledge of composition and rendering as a painter, I began to create composite digital images, blending parts of several photographs to create the final images. The digital medium allowed me to create dream-like surreal images that felt right to me,” said Statuto.
Shadow, texture, and a wide range of visual tweaks and enhancements all accentuate the psychological effect the images can have on the viewer. The pieces themselves are a imagery of conceptual and visual wonders for fans of the form.
“If the images evoke interest and cause the viewers to take a second look, and possibly speculate as to what is going on in a particular image, then I have succeeded,” Statuto says.
New York State Council for the Arts and the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo, along with the New York State Legislature, have all made grants possible for the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance to put on such showcases. The venue allows such artists as Statuto show their medium of choice.
