Czech Sites Attacked by Hackers reports Web Hosting Professionals

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, March 12, 2013 ) San Francisco, CA -- According to authorities, hackers are ruffling some rather important feathers in central European financial sectors. The problems arose after websites for the Prague Stock Exchange (the Czech central bank) and several other important commercial banks in the country, were pushed off-line on Wednesday in a wave of new cyber attacks.

The latest attack came after the internet portals to some of the country's largest new agencies were attacked by the hackers two days prior. The agencies stated it appeared the hackers were located within the country, and the effort was not a foreign attack.

The hackers appear to have utilized a denial of service (DDoS) attack that overloads servers with digital requests, according to the central bank's spokesperson Marek Petrus.

“It’s a problem of external servers. Our web hosting provider is trying to put us back online,” Mr. Petrus said. Officials said the attacks weren’t jeopardizing financial accounts at any of the banks or the stock exchange.

The police stated that they are currently analyzing the cases but are not able to confirm the location of the hackers as of now.

The servers were back up in rather short order, some up a few hours later that day.

“The hacking does not impact trading as the stock exchange’s web page is not connected to trading platform,” said Jiri Kovarik, spokesman at the Prague Stock Exchange which is owned by the Vienna Stock Exchange-controlled CEE Stock Exchange Group.

“In no case has there been any loss of client data. At the current moment we are intensively working on counter-measures which will enable us to restore services for our clients,” said Komercni spokeswoman Monika Klucova.

In nearby Hungary, websites for a handful of non-governmental companies were prayed up on by hackers using MiniDuke phishing malware a week prior to the Czech cyber attacks.
