(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, February 27, 2013 ) London, UK -- The newest series of adventures for Hank Moody, David Duchovny's character on the showtime series Californication, may soon be viewable for the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The move is part of an effort to ramp up the SVOD services offered in regards to exclusive material to the UK audiences. The company is looking to pick up the first viewing rights to the newest season of the Showtime dark comedy. Netflix is apparently eyeing the first batch of available episodes, including 12 episodes of the fifth season.
The first for season are currently available on Netflix UK, while the series is without the first run UK broadcaster after the Channel 5 company opted out of its licensing deal for international distributors for the CBS Studios International. That move left fans of shows like Californication is the lurch and with no readily available way to watch their favorite shows.
A representative for the Netflix UK/Ireland did not make an immediate responses for a request to comment.
Californication is the brainchild of Tom Kapinos, and follows the hills and valleys of the novelist Hank Moody, who leaves the literary world found on the east coast for the pleasure-zone that is Los Angeles. Moody's self-destructive behavior, genius, and willingness to follow his libido carry the series through endless twists and turns that have lasted four full seasons, and is now well through the fifth.
Both the Netflix CEO and Chief Content Officer have previously indicated that the intention is to secure more first-run TV series for Netflix UK in order to increase subscribers. Included within the global push includes original programming including House of Cards, Hemlock Grove, and the fourth season of the much-awaited Arrested Development.
