(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, November 23, 2012 ) Kent, U.K -- Commemorative box sets featuring Rage Against the Machine will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, commemorating the 20th anniversary of the American rock band’s debut album.
Legacy Recording, which is part of Sony Music’s catalog division, is behind the release of “XX,” which will be available in three different forms.
The politically charged band, which formed in September 1991 with founding members, Tim Commorford, Brad Wilk, Tom Morello, and Zach de la Rocha, released “Rage Against the Machine,” in November 1992, featuring the singles “Bombtrack,” “Killing in the Name,” and “Bullet in the Head,” walked a fine line between hard rock and hip-hop and became one of the best-selling bands in the late ’90s.
The three different box sets available are: The 20th Anniversary Edition Deluxe Box Set, which has two CDs, two DVDs, a 12-inch vinyl LP, a 40-page booklet, and a two-sided poster; the 20th Anniversary Special Edition features two CDs plus a DVD with six tracks; and a 20th Anniversary Edition single CD featuring three bonus tracks). Additionally, two 12-inch vinyl albums (a picture album and a facsimile reproduction) of the original album, which has been remastered but has no bonus tracks, will also be available.
Of the two CDs that will be available, the first one features the newly remastered debut album along with three B-side songs not previously available. The second CD is a Rage Against the Machine demo tape that was recorded in 1991 and sold at merchandise tables at the bands shows during their initial tour. This is the first time that the demo tape has received an official release.
There are also two DVDs available. One DVD features Rage Against the Machines free concert that took place at London’s Finsbury Park in 2010. There will also be several of the band’s official music videos and live concert performance clips. The second DVD features background information surrounding the release of the debut album, including live performance clips from 1991-’94.
New liner notes for the debut album will also be made available as part of the box set, written by hip-hop artist and longtime Rage Against the Machine fan Chuck D.
