(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, November 23, 2012 ) Santa Fe, NM -- Mark White has had a big year, opening a new gallery in the Railyard district and doubling his stable of artists in the process. The resulting injection of passion and creativity inspired a new tradition: this holiday season, the gallery will be offering gifts in the second and third dimensions. Mark White Fine Art's “Art for the Holidays” will feature paintings—and sculptures—that are just the right size to fit in a box with a bow on top.
“Art for the Holidays” will include new work from Mark and Ethan White, Charles Veilleux, John Kessler, Alvin Gill-Tapia, Javier Lopez Barbosa, and Siri and Gino Hollander.
Mark is known for his kinetic wind sculptures, but his most recent body of work is more conceptual. Mark White Contemporary Art, his new space, has featured his oil paintings on aluminum panels and sculptures made from cut and twisted steel pipes.
“Art for the Holidays” will offer some of the smallest, most charming additions to this new oeuvre: Mark's series of sculptures called “We.” The pieces are 14-inch-tall aluminum figures, often in pairs, and each sport a visual punchline of sorts. In “We Sync” a metallic duo sways in unison. “We-Whee“ shows a pair of figures reaching for the sky. You can imagine what “We—Homage to Grant Wood's American Gothic” looks like—a tiny pitchfork is included.
Sculptor Siri Hollander's life-size steel-and-cement horses populate Mark White Fine Art's sculpture garden. The holiday exhibition will show a series of animals small enough to enclose in your hand. The pieces embody peculiar juxtapositions: they're solid steel formed by the fire of Siri's trusty welder, but look as delicate as porcelain and often engage in tender moments with each other.
“Art for the Holidays is a way for you to give the gift of art to the people you love,” says gallery director and artist Charles Veilleux.
Other offerings include: -Patina paintings on aluminum by Ethan White -Sculptural paintings that incorporate found objects by Charles Veilleux -Stone sculptures by John Kessler -Paintings by Alvin Gill-Tapia and Gino Hollander
