The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus was founded in 1919 when two circus companies merged: the circus created by James Anthony Bailey and P.T. Barnum joined the Ringling Brothers after the latter has purchased the former. Barnum & Bailey was originally bought by the Ringling Brothers Circus in 1907, but separate management only began in 1919.
In the late 1950’s, John Ringling North revolutionized their circus through introducing touring to venues. In the past, the circus just used their own portable tents, but North initiated the company’s use of venues such as sports stadiums, which already have existing seating in place. The Ringiling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey travelling circus set the standard for portable entertainment that families all around the world can enjoy, and they continue this tradition up to this day through the modern version of The Greatest Show on Earth.
This legendary travelling circus company will begin its run at the United Center in Chicago, IL on November 14 (Wednesday, with an opening 7:00 PM show), November 15 and 16 (with 10:30 AM and 7:00 PM shows), November 17 (with 11:30 AM, 3:30 PM, and 7:30 shows), November 18 (with 1:00 PM, 5:00 PM, and 7:00 PM shows), November 20 (7:00 PM), November 21 (2:00 PM and 7:00 PM), November 23 (11:30 AM, 3:30 PM, and 7:30 PM), November 24 (11:30 AM, 3:30 PM, and 7:30 PM), November 25 (1:00 PM and 5:00 PM). The circus will also be at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse (formerly known as the Conseco Fieldhouse) in Indianapolis, IN; the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the Philips Arena in Atlanta, the Florence Civic Center in Florence (SC), the Arena At Gwinnett Center in Duluth, the Richmond Coliseum, the Prudential Center in Newark, and plenty of other venues in key cities of the United States.
