The Last 150 Tickets to Dame Kiri Te Kanawa Concert Sold in Less Than 3 Minutes reports Tizzet

(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, November 10, 2012 ) Sydney, Australia -- The final 150 tickets to next year’s Dame Kiri Te Kanawa concert at Oamaru Opera House were sold out in less than three minutes on Saturday.

The concert, which takes place next year in Oamaru, saw hopeful attendees arrive at the ticket office before 6 a.m. to start the line. The first person in line was David Wilson, who was subsequently joined by 15 more set to compete with internet and telephone ticket sales for the remaining 150 tickets.

Wilson was able to get two $130 tickets, which he said were for his mother and sister, while another eight people got tickets as well. Each customer was limited to a maximum of four tickets, and were sold out way before the Opera House opened at 10 a.m.

Director Megan Peacock-Coyle was quoted as saying the ticket sales were "very exciting.” The Director continued saying, “It was a really great atmosphere, like a rock concert for older people.”

Hopefuls who were unable to secure tickets were put on a wait-list just in case any tickets became available from buyers unable to attend.

"It's some time before the concert, so tickets could become available," said Peacock-Coyle. Internet bookings reportedly came from all around New Zealand and inquiries had also reportedly come from thousands of miles away in North America.

200 preferential tickets went on sale on October 19th, but were only available for people living in the Waitaki district and were bought out in less than 24 hours.

Network Waitaki and Opera House sponsors and supporters were given another 150 tickets for their close connection with the show.

The Oamaru concert will be Dame Kiri's only appearance in New Zealand, which explains the sales frenzy. The Opera House’s $10.3 million refurbishment was reportedly what drew Dame Kiri in the first place.
