(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, November 11, 2012 ) Victoria, Australia- A large display occupied the Forum arena, grabbing the attention of attendees entering the Women’s Health Retreat.
A walk around the center and through exhibit gave individuals an opportunity to see the displayed personal struggles that women and family members go through during the fight against breast cancer.
Redmond Regional Medical Center was the host of the retreat, which was aimed at informing individuals and pamper those decided to visit the event.
“This is the first year we’ve done this and we really didn’t know what to expect,” said Andrea Pitts, marketing director for Redmond. “If we can help one person though it has been worth it.”
Redmond had many departments set up to promote early detection processes, as well as support general wellness among women.
“I think sometimes when a person hears ‘breast cancer’ they tend to stop listening after that,” Pitts said. “It can be overwhelming and hard to absorb all of the information that is given at the time.”
Angioscreens were provided free of change, and food sampling was provided by Redmond dieticians.
Mini-massages were also provided along with tea and coffee from Cups and Mugs, giving attendees a chance to relax.
The AmeriBreast interactive exhibit was the centerpiece of the event, allowing visitors a walkthrough a replica of a woman’s bust to take note of normal and abnormal breast tissue.
“We are very excited to have it here,” Pitts said. “It’s the first time we know that it’s been in Rome.”
Imaging technicians were also on hand to explain breast cancer development in differing areas on the bust.
“It’s really helpful to get to see it,” said Cheryl Smetts, the quality manager for radiology at Redmond. “After people go through they are very impressed by it and have said they wish they would have brought more people with them.”
Anne Fennel of Rome and her mother, Mary Alice Slack attended the event. Mary Alice, 84, was diagnosed with breast cancer five years ago.
“It’s been so interesting,” Fennell said. “Just walking around and looking and reading. It lets you know that you really need to keep a check on yourself.”
