While he claimed it his homeland, Trump could not have looked less at home in the brisk north-east.

Despite being dressed down, the government gave Trump the go-ahead on his interest and demands. Last year, the course was coming along and everything seemed in line. That was, until a wind farm two kilometers offshore was submitted. Trump was clearly upset by the move.
"I felt betrayed, because I invested my money based on statements that were made to me," Trump said. "Lots of very smart people with a lot of money are looking to invest in different parts of the world - when they see what happened to me and the way I've been treated, they're not going to be investing in Scotland."
Despite it all, Trumps International Golf Links are opened on Menie estate, 5 miles from north Aberdeen.
With the course open, Trump now has an almost insurmountable task of coming through on the promise of it being the greatest golf course. Its ranks amongst those already in Scotland, let alone the world, are an uphill battle. Links like the Royal Aberdeen, Royal Dornoch and Carnoustie, which have not only elegance but history on Scotland’s rugged east coast.
Simply put, the world’s oldest courses are in Scotland, which give them a significant advantage over the lavish Trump course. How you defeat nostalgia with lavishness has yet to be seen. However, Trump has never been afraid to attempt such a feat.
