This annual festival is the oldest of its kind in Scandinavia. The mix of modern short films and classics, along with the competition entries, attracts film buffs from all over the world. The festival programme includes documentaries, fiction, contemporary, animations and special screenings. Up and coming filmmakers are also promoted at the festival and students have a chance to talk to professional filmmakers.
For filmmakers, this festival has a Finnish competition level as well competitions open to international entries. The films for the separate categories have different screening times. Of the many films in the categories, a jury of five international members, one of whom is Finnish, chooses the winning film. The best overall film in the festival’s competition wins the ‘Grand Prix’ prize of a trophy and 5,000 Euros, and there are three lesser cash prizes. The audience participates by voting for their favourite film in the categories and the winner receives a Diploma of Merit.
