(EMAILWIRE.COM, January 27, 2011 ) BAR HARBOR, Maine- It doesn’t take an experienced ornithologist to notice the abundance of bird life on Mount Desert Island. During June 2-5 the 13th Annual Acadia Birding Festival hopes to foster attention for Maine’s bird life and conservation issues affecting birds. During the 4-day festival visitors can participate in a variety of events such as: bird walks to known “bird hotspots,” bird calling and photographic workshops with famed birders Pete Dunne and Kevin Karlson, talks on bird identification, and a pelagic bird and whale watch trip. During the whale watch watch trip lead naturalists Zack Klyver and Michael Good will lead the group to Petit Manan Island in search of Atlantic Puffin and Arctic Tern and then over to watch the interaction of pelagic birds with Right, Fin and Humpback Whales over 20 miles off shore.
The Acadia Birding Festival is a non-profit event created by and for birders. The event welcomes all types of ornithological enthusiasts from novices to experts. Extended stays in Bar Harbor allow visitors to test out their new identification skills and view other local wildlife.
