(EMAILWIRE.COM, July 30, 2009 ) COSTA RICA, —Costa Rica Nature Adventures offers an 18-mile trip down the wild and scenic Pacuare River, which offers some of the finest white water in Latin America and ventures through lush rainforest, crystalline waterfalls and dense vegetation covering the sides of steep gorges. The trip travels on a bio-diesel bus, with a Costa Rican breakfast en route to the put-in site. After a briefing, the trip travels through areas populated by toucans, parrots and other birds. The 637-acre nature reserve owned by the company has fast-growing trees that absorb more carbon dioxide than the buses emit. A healthy lunch is served by the riverbank by a Cabécar Indian family, who recycles the organic waste and washes the dishes. After lunch the trip travels through more class-III and class-IV rapids and the narrow canyon of Dos Montañas. There’s a chance to change clothes before the drive back to San Jose. The trip had been offered at $118 per person, but has been reduced to $110. While no previous white water experience is required, rafters should be physically fit and at least 12 years old. The trip is carbon-neutral and minimizes waste.
