(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, December 10, 2014 ) New Orleans, LA -- These coaches have met a few times before. Urban Meyer was the Florida coach when these two coaches brought their teams onto the field in the prior clashes; and Nick Saban, not unlike those three prior times when they met before, is still at Alabama. Nick Saban holds a 2-1 record over Urban Meyer in these past matchups. The Gators defeated the Tide, 31-20, at the 2008 SEC Championship Game; Urban Meyer's one win in the prior meetings. The next year, Alabama took down Florida, beating them 32-13, in the 2009 SEC title game. The second of Saban's wins came the following year, in 2010, when the Tide rolled on over the Gators, 31-6, during regular season play. Now five years later and they are back to face off again. This time, can Urban Meyer even the series, or will Nick Saban's guys roll on again?
For the Crimson Tide, this seems to be a more common trip for them than any other team. This will mark their record setting 15th appearance at the Sugar Bowl. During those 15 trips, they have won 53% of the time, laying their claim to yet another record 8 Sugar Bowl Wins. The Buckeyes are no stranger to the Sugar Bowl, either, with four prior visits. However, two of those trips ended in losses; one of which, was to Alabama. Unfortunately, there were some allegations and controversy that marred their meeting with Arkansas in 2011.
For the Buckeyes, the way they closed out the regular season; leaping ahead of other playoff contenders, was nothing short of incredible. The Buckeyes regular season culminated with a spectacular performance shutting out Wisconsin and shutting down Melvin Gordon, during their 59-0 shellacking of the Badgers. Plus, they did this with seven freshmen playing. In preparation for the Sugar Bowl this younger team will need to step up their game even more for their match against Alabama, who has 19 seniors on their squad.
This Sugar Bowl promises to be one of the premier games in recent years. Even though sometimes the seats have not all been sold out, hopefully you already have your tickets. Odd are you may not be able to get tickets to the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
