(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, July 03, 2013 ) Calgary, Canada -- Joe Statuto, a photographer from Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania, will have his exhibit “Perhaps in a Dream” shown at the Delaware Arts Center’s Alliance Gallery in Narrowsburg, New York. The exhibit will begin with a reception from 7pm to 9pm on Friday, June 14, 2013 and will be on display until July 6, 2013. “Perhaps in a Dream” is a digital photography series labeled as a study in metaphor and symbolism.
Joe got the inspiration for his work in large part through the writings of Jorge Luis Borges. The surreal creations are illusionary and dreamlike in quality. Profound meanings are drawn from common everyday objects. The backdrops for the images are generally empty rooms or open spaces, where the space may be dramatically lit. Various common objects are then digitally added with visual enhancements to these “backdrops” to produce a psychological effect and ambience of texture and shadows. “If the images evoke interest and cause the viewers to take a second look, and possibly speculate as to what is going on in a particular image, then I have succeeded,” speculates Statuto.
Joe was originally a watercolor and oil painter but ten years ago, he was attracted to digital photography because of its meticulous plasticity. Statuto states, “Applying my knowledge of composition and rendering as a painter, I began to create composite digital images, blending parts of several photographs to create the final images. The digital medium allowed me to create dream-like surreal images that felt right to me.”
The exhibit is open to the public at no charge. It is funded in part by the New York State Legislature, with a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.
