(Entertainment-NewsWire.com, October 07, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA- The Flyers have, let’s face it, a severely young team. It is a team loaded with up-and-coming stars, none of whom are actually starts yet. Still, one of the brightest of these possible breakout stars is a guy who was drafted in 2011 and jumped into the fray right away.
Sean Couturier proved he belonged in the league, even fresh out of the gate.
Regardless of that obvious talent, he is still very young. What is worse, the lockout is going to hinder his learning curve more than it would have been otherwise. The way the Flyers hope to solve that problem is to let him play in the AHL on the Phantoms.
While the move is a theoretical demotion, given that he has nowhere to play above the AHL, it can at least be seen as giving the young talent a chance to grow and not stifle in the likelihood of a continued lockout. What is more, the young gun is likely to build up confidence and leadership skills in against thinner talent pools of the AHL.
“Its different level, (but) I still have to adapt myself,” Couturier said. “I’m looking forward to it. It’s my second year of pro hockey so I want to bring more offense to my game. I know I have the offensive tools to do it and hopefully, I can show it.”
The young talent has a truly positive attitude given the difficulties of the upcoming season (or lack thereof).
Couturier has a lot of scouts saying many positive things about him both this and last year. In his rookie season, he showed great skill at the defensive center position. There were multiple times last year wherein he was on the ice late in tight-scoring games. He was assigned difficult matchups and he was often capable of coming out the victor.
The future is likely bright for the young star if he can stay sharp, and the AHL may be his best chance right now.
